January 2008 Outreach

United Methodist Women
January is United Methodist Women Month. Throughout January, the members of Trinity’s UMW unit will serve during and after the 11:00 am worship service as ushers, acolytes, liturgists and coffee servers. This is just one more way in which the UMW performs acts of service in the church, our community and the world. Any woman is invited to become a member of the unit or an individual circle. January meetings are scheduled:
Unit Meeting: No Unit Meeting in January, but they are usually the second Thursday of the month at 1:00 pm in the Parlor
Ethel Clark Circle: Tuesday, January 15 at 1:00 pm at Trinity
Morning Glory Circle: Monday, January 21at 10:00 am at Smitty’s Restaurant
Susannah Circle: Wednesday, January 23 at 6:00 pm at Garcia’s Restaurant
Mary Martha Circle: Thursday, January 24 at 1:00 pm at Trinity
Spotlight on Ministry
January is UMW Month
Piece by Peace by Piece. How does one make a quilt? It is put together carefully to form an idea that a person has in their mind’s eye. A quilt reminds me of our PURPOSE put together piece by piece to form a guide for us to live by as United Methodist Women.
The PURPOSE should be the centerpiece of our Quilt. And around this center we have education made up of the Reading Program, School of Christian Missions, Legislative Events, and Leadership Training. We have commitment—Pledge to Missions, Charter for
Racial Justice, Peace with Justice—we have faith—we have love for all people and we certainly have involvement.
Our emblem, the Cross and the Flame, is another piece of the quilt. The shape is fluid and free-flowing. And the color of the flame is red, representing our passion—a passion that has kept us on our journey as advocates of our commitment for Christ’s mission in the world.
Where would we be without the backing of the quilt? The backing is the money we give to support our missions around the world to help women, children and youth. Have you increased your Pledge to Missions this year?
There is the stuffing (batting) of the quilt, which is Prayer, Responsibility and Participation—the framework of who we are as United Methodist Women.
Last and most important is the stitching of the quilt and that is the membership. This is what holds everything together and makes the quilt useable.
This means you and me working and learning together and we need the membership participation to help make us grow. This means attending Leadership Training Events, which this year we are calling Membership Enrichment Leadership Training. We will have other things offered so you can learn about United Methodist Women and how we work together as United Methodist Women. Even if you do not hold an office you can come away with something to take back with you to share. Stitch these dates in your mind: February 23, 2008 at Hillview UMC in Boise and March 8, 2008 at Idaho Falls Trinity UMC. Our theme is Piece by Peace by Piece. What an opportunity to hone in on our skills while working together to understand our PURPOSE and to further our understanding of the role God wants us to fill as United Methodist Women.
